സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ നെല്ല്, തെങ്ങ്, അടക്ക, റബ്ബർ, കൊക്കോ, ഏലം, പൈനാപ്പിൾ ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള പ്രധാന കൃഷികളാകെ ഈ ക്ഷാമം മൂലം തകരാറിലായിരിക്കുകയാണ്. പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് പൈനാപ്പിൾ മേഖലയിൽ മാത്രം വർഷം തോറും 22,500 ടൺ യൂറിയയും 15,000 ടൺ പൊട്ടാഷും ആവശ്യമാണ്. നിലവിലെ ക്ഷാമം കർഷകരെ പരമാവധി ചെലവേറിയ മറ്റ് വളങ്ങളിലേക്കും കോംപ്ലക്സ് വളങ്ങളിലേക്കും മാറ്റിവിടുന്നത് ഉൽപാദനച്ചെലവിൽ വലിയ വർധനവിനും കൃഷിയിലെ പോഷക അസന്തുലിതാവസ്ഥയ്ക്കും കാരണമാകുന്നതായി എംപി വ്യക്തമാക്കി.
വിദഗ്ദ്ധർ നൈട്രജന്റെ പ്രാധാന്യം ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടിയതായി എംപി ഓർമ്മിപ്പിച്ചു. നൈട്രജൻ — പ്രധാനമായും യൂറിയയിൽ നിന്ന് ലഭിക്കുന്നത് — കേരളത്തിലെ വള ഉപഭോഗത്തിന്റെ 44 ശതമാനം വരെയാണുള്ളത്. ഇതിലെ ഏത് തടസ്സവും വിള വളർച്ച, വിളവ്, ഗ്രാമീണ സമ്പദ്വ്യവസ്ഥ എന്നിവയെ നേരിട്ടും ഉടനടിയും ബാധിക്കുമെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് നൽകി.
ക്ഷാമം നേരിടുന്ന കർഷകരുടെ ദുരിതം ഗുരുതരമാണെന്നും, സംസ്ഥാന സർക്കാരിന്റെ നിരന്തരമായ അഭ്യർത്ഥനകൾ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടും കേന്ദ്രം സമയബന്ധിതമായ വിതരണത്തിൽ പരാജയപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും എംപി ലോക്സഭയിൽ വിമർശിച്ചു. കർഷകരുടെ ഉപജീവനത്തെ തകർക്കുന്ന ഈ ഗൗരവപരമായ സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ, ആവശ്യമായ യൂറിയയും പൊട്ടാഷും അടിയന്തിരമായി സംസ്ഥാനത്തെത്തിക്കാനും, കേന്ദ്ര സർക്കാർ താല്പര്യം കാണണമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു.
“നമ്മുടെ കർഷകർ അവഗണനയല്ല, സമയബന്ധിതമായ പിന്തുണയാണ് അർഹിക്കുന്നത്. അവരുടെ അതിജീവനം നമ്മുടെ സംയുക്ത ഉത്തരവാദിത്തമാണ്,” എംപി പറഞ്ഞു.

All major crops in the state, including paddy, coconut, cassava, rubber, cocoa, cardamom, and pineapple, have been damaged due to this famine.In particular, the pineapple sector alone requires 22,500 tons of urea and 15,000 tons of potash annually.
The MP stated that the current shortage is forcing farmers to switch to other, more expensive fertilizers and complex fertilizers, which is causing a huge increase in production costs and nutritional imbalances in agriculture.The MP recalled that experts have pointed out the importance of nitrogen.

He warned that any disruption to this would have a direct and immediate impact on crop growth, yields and the rural economy.
The MP criticized the Lok Sabha that the plight of farmers facing famine is serious and that the Centre has failed to provide timely distribution despite the state government’s constant requests.In this serious situation that is destroying the livelihood of farmers, he demanded that the Central Government take an interest in urgently supplying the required urea and potash to the state.“Our farmers deserve timely support, not neglect. Their survival is our collective responsibility,” the MP said.
